About The Meridian Line

The Meridian Line is an independent magazine covering the people who still make things by hand and by machine — blacksmiths, joiners, welders, and the small workshops that keep a local economy standing on something other than a shipping container. We publish one long feature a week and a short dispatch most days.

We are three people: an editor who used to run a fabrication shop, a reporter who covers trade and apprenticeship policy, and a photographer who insists on shooting on location, every time. We take no advertising from equipment manufacturers we cover.

Shop owners, apprentices, people who fix things for a living, and a growing number of readers who just want to understand how the objects around them get made.
